In the morning, Xingchen wakes first and makes sure they have breakfast prepared. He then bathes and gets ready for the day, walking back into the bedroom in much the same state Xue Yang had been in the night before.

With just a towel to hide him.

Xue Yang isn't used to sleeping in a big bed, and ends up on his stomach, arms and legs sprawled out and taking up more space than he should.

When he wakes up it's just in time to see a freshly bathed Xiao Xingchen step into the room.

Shit, he must have slept like the dead to not wake up earlier. He feels for the dagger under his pillow, reassured when he touches the hilt.

He then sits up and runs a hand through his sleep-mussed hair. "Morning."

At least one of those limbs had ended up on Xingchen - much to his amusement when he woke. But he is much too accustomed to rising early to stay in bed, though he tried to be as quiet as possible. He isn't expecting Xue Yang to be awake when he returns from the bath and his cheeks pink immediately.

"...good morning." he ducks towards the armoire and pulls out his robes, dropping the towel when he is certain he won't be flashing his friend.

Xue Yang yawns and rubs sleep from his eyes. He does feel well-rested for once. No uncomfortable soreness or bodily fluids drying on his skin, which is a nice change.

He gets out of the bed, though not before sliding his dagger back into the sleeve of the sleep robe. He decides to use it as a new inner robe since his own is dirty. His outer robe is as well, but this way he won't need to have it directly against his skin. He puts his outer robe back on and ties it closed.

He has his own comb, though it's quality is not as good as the one that Xiao Xingchen had used. It doesn't matter. He swiftly combs through his hair and then ties it back up with his ribbon.

He won't have to ever experience that again if Xingchen has his way. If any man approached Xue Yang for those services, he would draw Shuanghua immediately. His friend is his to protect.

Once he is suitably dressed, he returns to Xue Yang and smiles. He really can't help it. The other has such a cute, mischievous face!

"Are you ready to fly?" he motions to their breakfast, "Eat and then we can be on our way. Oh... Which reminds me..."

Xingchen reaches into his pouch and produces two cloaks. Warm cloaks. He wraps one of them around his friend's shoulders.

"The wind can be cold."

Xue Yang takes the cloak, running his fingers over the material. It's better quality than anything he's ever owned before, and it's not even that fancy. It makes him a little angry for a moment, but not at Xiao Xingchen. He's just kind of... mad at the world. He puts the cloak on without a word and seats himself at the table to eat. He's never going to turn down a meal - especially when it's free.

As he eats something occurs to him. "Hey, Xiao Xingchen... can we get some sweets at the market before we leave?"

He hasn't been able to get some for a while. The candy stand vendors around are especially wary of him since he's stolen from them a lot, which has made it a little more difficult to get away with it. Especially lately. So he hasn't been able to have any. He suspects that he can easily get Xiao Xingchen to pay for some sweets. The man is clearly too nice for his own good.

The world hasn't been fair, but it rarely is, sadly. Xingchen has been lucky and he is ready and willing to share what he has been given. Maybe to make the world a little fairer - or simply because he likes Xue Yang.

Xingchen helps himself to some fruit, arching a graceful brow at the question. Candy? A small smile begins to form on his lips.

"Of course." as if he would ever say no to such a cute request! Now he knows more about his friend; he has a sweet tooth.

"I'm eager to see which are your favorites." and he won't forget~

At least the thought of candy makes him feel better. Excited by the prospect of it, he starts to eat his breakfast even faster.

"Mm... I like a lot of different kinds. You got enough money for it, gege?" Xue Yang teases. He might just drain Xiao Xingchen's coin purse if he lets him...

Xingchen is amused by the enthusiasm. Candy seems like a simple thing to acquire and if it makes his companion happy, why not?

"I do." he promises, though he doesn't show where he keeps his pouch, "You're kind enough to keep me company. It's the least I can do to repay you."

Xue Yang practically jumps to his feet hearing that. "Then lets go!" Candy is always a reason to be excited.

"You're so eager." he chuckles and follows, gathering Shuanghua. Instead of going to the door, he opens the window. Unsheathing his sword, he steps onto it and holds out his hand to Xue Yang.

"Of course! Gege is buying me candy, so how could I not be?" Xue Yang grins.

He pats himself down to make sure he has his dagger and coinpurse and then he follows Xiao Xingchen.

He gives his outstretched hand a slightly wary look, but then takes it and lets himself be pulled up onto the sword.

Gege. Xingchen blushes and then chuckles at the name.

"Call me Xingchen. We're going to be fellow students soon enough." he smiles softly, encouraging Xue Yang to join him on the blade. When the other boy does, he pulls him close, holding him snugly and safely in his arms as the sword lifts off of the ground.

And then they are flying outside.

Xue Yang chuckles a little. "But gege suits you," he insists.

Once on the sword, he grabs onto Xiao Xingchen's robes and holds on tight. He doesn't want to fall off.

"Wow," he murmurs as he looks down, a little awestruck by the view of the Kuizhou from above.

"Does it?" he chuckles, pleased, "If you insist, but I don't want you to feel forced."

Xingchen gets them onto the sword and then bundles the other boy in his arms as they fly. The little murmur is so adorable that he is quite ready to buy Xue Yang a mountain of candy. Too bad he lacks the funds and Kuizhou lacks that much candy!

Taking them down near the candy vendors, Xingchen steps off of the blade gracefully.

"Choose what you like best."

Xue Yang would definitely get a mountain of candy if he could. Instead he'll make do with as much as he can carry.

As soon as they're back on the ground, he makes his way towards a stall that sells tanghulu. The vendor gives him a wary look, clearly recognizing him. Xue Yang flashes his teeth and nods towards Xiao Xingchen.

"Gege in white is paying," he says nonchalantly as he starts to grab several sticks of the candied fruit.

Tanghulu is the favorite, then. Xingchen follows Xue Yang and pays the vendor, gathering several more sticks of the treat. He acquires a paper bag and tucks them away. Who knows when they might be useful~

"Don't run too fast, A-Yang. We can take our time."

The vendor gives Xiao Xingchen an odd look, probably wondering why the hell he is buying candy for this little delinquent, but he doesn't question it - happy to actually get paid.

Xue Yang grins and grabs Xiao Xingchen's arm, tugging him along. "Candy can't wait, gege," he insists as he tugs the older boy towards another stall - this one selling buns with sweet red bean paste, and other similar treats.

The look is ignored and Xingchen follows Xue Yang with a happy laugh. It's good to see his friend so vibrant! Anything Xue Yang seems particularly interested in, he buys more of and tucks it away.

"Don't eat all of this at once. Your stomach won't thank you." he acquires them a better lunch - for later - enclosed in a neat wooden box. Everything goes into his pouch, though it never looks any bigger. Magic is so useful!

Xue Yang rolls his eyes. "Of course I'm not gonna eat it all at once. I'm not stupid." He knows how to ration food, and that includes sweet things. Especially the latter. He wants to make it last as long as possible.

Finally, after raiding practically every stand selling sweet things, Xue Yang is satisfied. He turns to Xiao Xingchen, and there's a certain sparkle in his eyes that wasn't there before. "Alright, I'm done."

No wonder he tastes like sugar~ <3

Chuckling at the retort - what a teenager! - Xingchen pays for everything and waits for Xue Yang to come back to him. That light in his eyes is lovely to see and he brings out Shuanghua again.

"We'll travel faster on this. Are you ready to leave this town behind?" the question is asked in a softer voice.

Well, he is a teenager!

"Fuck yeah, I am," Xue Yang says, ready to jump onto the sword again. He can't wait, honestly. Whatever's waiting in the mountain, there's no way it can be worse than living on the streets of Kuizhou.

A very cute teenager. Xingchen is one too, though he doesn't think of himself as young.

"Stay with me and you won't fall." he promises, tugging Xue Yang into his arms again as he climbs onto the sword, "Balance your feet and you're secure."

Xue Yang grabs a hold of Xiao Xingchen's robes again. They're going to be flying much higher this time, so he definitely doesn't want to fall. He does feel secure being held by Xiao Xingchen though...

"I'm ready," he says after making sure he's standing securely.

Xingchen keeps Xue Yang tucked against him as Shuanghua carries them up into the air. He even tucks the other boy's hood over his head to keep his ears and face warm.

"We will have to climb a little, but not much. You will have to get accustomed to the higher altitude too."
